290. CHINA MADE WATCH WINDER WITH STORAGE

By: dmans

A watch winder winds your automatic watch saving you time and effort. It rotates the watch slowly, causing the rotor inside to spin, winds the mainspring, readying the watch whenever you desire to wear.

Picked up this double-watch winder or rotator during my recent visit to Shanghai.

Was attracted by the neat and clean finished, an indication that a lot of effort has gone into completing this finished product. The black colour exudes a kind of grandeur look comparable to Western-made.

The winder accommodates the winding of two automatic watches at one time with double storage compartments.

Just wanted to try out China made products which have tremendously improved quality wise.

Tried a few Swiss vintage watches on it and it rotated pretty well, smooth and silent. Durability wise, only time will tell...

Specifications:

Case: Piano black wooden box

Inner: Genuine black leather

Size (mm): 180 x 210 x 225

Latch with lock and key

Dual powered winder ; AC Adapter and batteries

Program details:

Mode 1, Operation On/Off.

Mode 2, Turn clockwise. Rotate for 2 minutes and rest for 6 minutes and then repeat.

Mode 3, Turn counter clockwise. Rotate for 2 minutes and rest for 6 minutes and then repeat.

Mode 4, Turn both clockwise and counter clockwise. Rotate for 2 minutes in one direction and then rest for 6 minutes. Rotate for 2 minutes in the opposite direction and then rest for 6 minutes. Repeats above cycle.

Mode 5, Turn both clockwise and counter clockwise. Rotate for 5 minutes in one direction and then rotates in opposite direction in same 5 minutes. Repeats continuously for 3 hours and then rests for 9 hours. After 9th hour, it will begin rotating above cycle.

289. WOLF DESIGN WINDSOR SINGLE WINDER - NOT FOR SALE

Some time ago, my mentor who owns the biggest watch gallery in the city introduced me to this watch winder or watch rotator to facilitate the 'winding' of my collections of automatic watches. This particular Wolf design has been very reliable, useful, handy and dutifully serve my watches.

At a few hundred Ringgit per piece, it is inexpensive taking into account its beautifully crafted design, quality and durability.

Details:

Silk fabric faceplate

Polished Chrome control panel
“Lock” in cuff accommodate a wrist size in excess of 10”

Runs on 3.3V (110/220V) Adapter (included) or D-cell batteries

Battery pack: Lithium or Alkaline

Dimensions: 6”w x 6.75”d x 5”h

Features:

900 Turns Per Day (TPD)
10 second start delay
Rotation Options: clockwise, counter-clockwise or bi-directional
Patented rotation programs- Intermittent rotation with pause and sleep phases pre-programmed

Of course there other models available of various designs in the market. Be smart when choosing any particular model before procuring any unit.

It is always best to sight the unit at any watch gallery and request for a full demonstration.

As such purchasing through e-purchase is not very recommended especially if it is being retail at ridiculously cheap price. What more if you are going to use it for your expensive automatic watches!

You might end up with a garbage for the peanut price paid...

284. UMNYASHOV…FROM MOSCOW WITH LOVE

Umnyashov pronounced as ‘um-ya-shov’ is a new name of Russian watch model I just got acquainted today. This limited edition timepiece of 500 pieces is extra special to me as it is directly acquired in Arbat street, Moscow by someone very dear and special to me.

I’ve never given much attention to Russian watches until my recent visits to Red Army at the Pavilion in Kuala Lumpur. Thanks to Red Army for instilling my passions for Russian watches. A check with Red Army today confirmed that even the store has yet to carry the range of UMNYASHOV.

Wow, that made this acquisition more exquisite. Thanks Uncle…

About Umnyashov brand

The creator of the watch mark UMNYASHOV, Alexander Umnyashov is a hereditary watchmaker. In the era of the Soviet watch industry he worked at the First Moscow Watch Factory "Flight" where he studied and mastered all the subtleties of watchmaking. This knowledge became the basis for Alexander when he created his brand concentrating the most valuable qualities of Soviet watches: high quality and reliability, reasonable/democratic price, recognizable uncompromising design.

The influence of a more remote from us layer of the Soviet era Constructivism is felt in the watch design. For all that, UMNYASHOV is an absolutely modern brand, it is a fusion of old and new, Russian and foreign features, because it could be hard to imagine Soviet watches devoted to American warplanes, but Alexander being inspired by this theme speaks of his cosmopolitan perception of reality.

For many years Alexander was keen on studying of military equipment. This hobby turned into a deep knowledge in this area, and logically led to another interest such as design. In fact, the design of military equipment is hundred percent functional, herewith, it delights with its pithiness and it reflected in the “architecture”, morphology of watch collection.

So three Alexander’s passions such as watches, military equipment, and design were embodied in his creations.

164. KENNETH COLE REACTION - JAM SANTAI.../ A CASUAL WATCH

KENNETH COLE REACTION- A CASUAL WATCH

The watch I wear daily is dictated by the mood and need of the day.

This Kenneth Cole Reaction model is one of the favourite for casual function due to its simple design and clear functions of the dial. The rubber strap provides the hugging feeling of confidence on the wrist.

It might not be a model meant for heavy duty used, still this inexpensive model often got pick up by me for casual meet like evening tea sessions with friends.

154. VINTAGE UNISEX LEONARD ( NOT FOR SALE )

Acquired this piece of Leonard at a very 'friendly' price some time back from a renowned blogger whom I've the greatest respect.

Changed the strap to a dark blue calf leather to provide a contrast to the grey dial. I thought it looked rather cute and pretty.

The petite size of the case allows the flexibility of the watch to be suitably worn both by men and ladies. I mean men with small wrists. So, until this day it never fits this wrist of mine of size XL.

Never mind, I can just place it among other ladies watches in the box where it will remain until I find the right lucky lady.

Even then... I don't really know whether she has a liking to this vintage beau called Leonard

139.THE TOUCH OF ADORABLE WATCHES, THE ABC - Z TO ZENO BASEL

I have been wanting to complete my collections of watches from ABC to Z. It is a daunting and costly task but with the support received from friends all over the world, I've managed to lay my hands on almost every alphabet of models, be it vintage, pre-owned or new.

There is however SIX more alphabets viz. Q, N, U, X, Y and Z still remained elusive. So, the hunting journey continues. I really cannot figure out the models for Q, N and X though a U-Boat and Yeslam could fit in for U and Y. Any suggestions please?

To address the predicament, I enlisted the assistance of the ever reliable blogger and mentor, Syed Mohri of Irhomdeys Vintage Watch Collections.

Working backward, I zeroed in on the alphabet, Z. It was a simple task as he had ready stock of two units of Zeno Divers for sale. I booked one unit and last Friday accompanied by Limau Tambun, we met him at the Amcorp Mall to collect the watch.

This was the first meeting between Irhomdeys and Limau Tambun. Their conversation covering many subjects sounded very interesting especially on the proposal to form an association, MAWCC* but to me the ZENO diver inside the box was more exciting and thrilling.

Had a good peep. My oh my, what a mesmerising sight, a real beauty this black, silver and orange bezel beast turned out to be... It was an OVERSIZE beauty and the beast! Bold, solid and rugged, it was a pure gem indeed.

This Swiss watch sourced from Hamburg, Germany, February this year comes complete with original hard box and certificate. I always fancy original watches that comes in a complete package.

Feast your eyes as much as I have feasted mine. This timepiece is just so cool and solid.

I think it deserved to don the watch cabinet for a little while for daily look... Just too adorable to rough it out yet.

Oh yes, it is definitely NOT FOR SALE.

HISTORY OF ZENO BASEL

The Zeno history started from 1868 with watchmaker Jules Godat, the founder of a small pocket watch manufacturing company (Godat & Co.) in La Chaux-de-Fonds, located in the heart of Swiss watch manufacture. He produced, in very small quantities, fine pocket watches featuring solid silver cases and lady pendant watches. He built a small factory, which was taken over in 1920 by the company, A. Eigeldinger & Fils.

The family business, Eigeldinger, specialized in wrist watches for the army. They produced watches in stainless steel, silver, gold and platinum, with mechanical movements up to 43mm. They assembled different guaranteed horology. Their registered brands were ZENO, STRAND and SOLVEX. The son of the owner, Andre-Charles Eigeldinger, introduced Zeno. The name was influenced by the Greek philosopher, Zeno, and comes from Zenodopolus, which means "Gift of Zeus."

The first ZENO watches were made in 1922. Each piece was marked with a Swiss cross on the back of the casing. The company has since continued to innovate watch manufacturing techniques. In 1949, the ZENO watches were exhibited for the first time at the Swiss Watch Fair in Basel.

In 1966, wholesalers Dr. Peter Atteslander and Eric Enggist bought the rights to ZENO and sold them to Mr. Felix W. Huber in 1973. Mr. Huber had worked for the company since 1964.

Our workshops gained international attention in 1969 with the legendary and futuristic "Spacemen," with the production of the vacuum diver watch "Compressor," and the takeover of several well-known Swiss watch factories.

The timeless star of ZENO is the famous "Pilot Classic" collection (40mm). A remake of our pilot watches from 1965 (37mm), today's model compares very favorably with the vintage ZENO Pilot Basic 1965 original. Their technical features, however, give them an undeniable advantage.

Today Zeno watches are produced by one of the last independent Swiss watch manufacturers and traditional company, ZENO-WATCH BASEL.

The Swiss brand name ZENO symbolizes an excellent choice in marketable wrist watches. We are proud of our small, but traditional, watch factory and our stylish watch collection. The watches are known and recognized internationally for their quality, design and innovation, exhibiting exceptionally high standards of quality while offering competitive prices.

The range of products extends from mechanical to quartz technology wrist watches with analogue display for ladies or gents in every combination of materials: mechanical and quartz technology wrist watches with analogue display, collectors' wristwatches, pocket watches, military, scuba diving watches or sport chronographs in every combination of materials.
